The 660 hr. Barbering Program includes Hair cutting, with a broad range of Hairstyles for men and women, Clipper Cutting and Scissors-over-comb Techniques, Shaving, Shampooing, Shop Management, Facial Massage, Universal Precautions, Preparation for the State Board Exam, Ethics, State Law, Proper methods of Sanitation, Sterilization, Hygiene and Common Skin Disorders Preparation for Job Interviews and Licensing.

Schedule:

Morning session:
Mon. - Fri. from 8:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M. (6.0 hrs of instruction + 30 minute meal break) for approximately 5 1/2 months.

Afternoon session:
Mon. - Fri. from 2:30 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. (4.5 hrs of instruction no meal break).
Saturday from 9:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M. (7.5 hrs. of instruction + 30 minute meal break) for approximately 5 1/2 months.

Financial Aid Requirements

1. Copy of Social Security Card
2. Copy of one of the following:
  • Birth Certificate
  • Passport
  • Green Card (both sides)
  • I-94 Form (both sides)
3. High School Diploma (HSD) or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) - If you don't have an HSD or GED you have to take an "Ability To Benefit" Exam - If you have HSD from a foreign country, you have to submit notarized translation and copy of the original of your HSD - If you changed your maiden name, you have to submit copy of Marriage Certificate
4. IRS Returns for previous year(s) (forms 1040, 1040 A, 1040 EZ 1040 Telefile), if you are single with no dependents under 23 years old you have to submit you parents' proof of income - If you are single/married/without dependants over 23 years of age but you did not file, you have to submit: - Budget Letter from SSI/ Welfare/ Public Assistance for previous year(s) - If you are single with no dependents over 23 years age but did not file Income Tax and were not receiving SSI/ Welfare/ Public Assistance you have to submit: - Notarized Letter of support for previous year(s)

288 HOUR BARBERING PROGRAM BREAKDOWN:
Schedule: Morning session:
Mon. - Fri. from 8:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M. (6.0 hrs of instruction + 30 minute meal break) for approximately 2 and a half months..

Afternoon session:
Mon. - Fri. from 2:30 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. (4.5 hrs of instruction no meal break).
Saturday from 9:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M. (7.5 hrs. of instruction + 30 minute meal break) for approximately 2 and a half months.

Students may take this program part-time or full-time, choosing to attend any number of hours from as few as 22 hours/week for 13 weeks up to as many as 36 hours/week for 8 weeks. Student may select morning or afternoon, and as few as 3 to 6 days a week.

NOTE: The above costs include full tuition as well as a non-refundable Registration Fee. Tools & supplies are never included in the cost of Tuition. Students must purchase their tools and supplies in school. Professional quality tools must be used. For convenience, various tool kits are available at the school, but students may not purchase tools at any place of their choice. Please see Student Equipment Price. All students must wear the official ABI uniform.

It is against school regulations to borrow other students' tools.

All new applicants who wish to apply with the State of New York as a Barber Operator or a Barber Apprentice and all individuals who wish to renew an existing Barber Operator License or Barber Apprentice License must complete a program of study on the "transmission of contagious diseases and the proper methods of sanitation and sterilization to be employed in barber shops".

To obtain the course send us a money order, personal check, or bank check for $59.95 made out to "AMERICAN BARBER INSTITUTE, Inc" along with a letter in the following format:

After we have received your payment we will then mail you the Transmission of Contagious Diseases Program Package. The package will include a program booklet, an exam based on the program booklet, and an enrollment agreement.

You will be expected to read and study the program booklet before taking the examination.

Upon completion of the exam make sure that both the exam and the enrollment agreement are completely filled out.  Once they have been completely filled out, mail them back to us.

When we receive the enrollment agreement and the exam back from you, we will grade the exam and upon passing it will mail you two certificates of completion, one for the state (mailed with your apprentice or master barber application), the other for your records.
