Women sitting in front of computer being instructed on(...)The School’s N.Y. state licensed admissions agents would be happy to meet you in a no-pressure atmosphere and go over the entire process with you. Our agents can help answer all your questions. They can tell you if you qualify, or if you could qualify, and discuss with you why you want to enter this profession, which after all is usually a lifetime career decision. It is important that your expectations be realistic.

The school’s agents can familiarize you with the various programs offered and the benefits of each. They will explain the programs lengths (number of hours and weeks) and the costs involved. If you wish, our financial aid officers can do preliminary, non-binding, evaluations of your possible eligibility for financial aid... and... again at your option, they can initiate an “on-line” inquiry to determine whether the Department of Education would in fact make funds available for you. All of this would be done at no cost or obligation to you.

No cost for counseling, no cost for evaluation or processing, and no obligation to accept any grant money offered to you (if any)... or to enroll in school at all.

Make the call. Meet with one of our Admissions Agents. Come in for your Free Tour. To be sure we have time available to see you, please phone first: (212) 290-2289

FINANCIAL AID MAY BE AVAILABLE FOR QUALIFIED BARBERING AT THE AMERICAN BARBER INSTITUTE

A.B.I. has been recognized by the Federal Government and is in contract with the Department of Education. We are authorized to process requests for Financial Assistance to those students who qualify. Those who qualify may receive a Pell Grant towards their Tuition, Books, Tools, Supplies and other educational costs.

Pell Grants are government funds that the student is not required to repay.

ABI does not offer Title IV, institutional or 3rd party loan programs.  As such there are no debt figures calculated for the school.

Our Admissions Office will be happy to help with any questions you may have regarding Admission Requirements. The following is a brief overview but is not complete and there are often extenuating circumstances... so feel welcome to speak with an Admission Counselor or the Director, if your situation suggests it.

Age: ABI admits students who will be 17 or older by the start of programs.
Education: Usually the State Department of Education requires that students be either High School graduates or in possession of a GED (General Equivalency Diploma). This requirement was established in a good-faith attempt to insure that the prospective student would be able to benefit from the training.
Ability to benefit test (ATB)

It should be obvious that there may be many individuals, who for one reason or another did not complete formal education or might have difficulty in obtaining a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)... such as language problems.

The Department of Education recognizes the importance of occupational (or vocational) education and has no desire to make it unavailable to such persons, providing there is good reason to believe that the individual would benefit from such an educational opportunity. Therefore, there are provisions for an “Ability to Benefit Test” which the State and Federal Education Departments have both approved for the purpose of determining which candidates appear able to benefit.

American Barber Institute is proud to make such testing available to applicants.

It’s the school's policy to assist students in any Way possible to enable them to complete their program. Students who withdraw or are dismissed may be reinstated at the sole discretion of the director. Dismissed students may apply to reenter. A student dismissed for excess absence, who is subsequently readmitted, must pay make up charges up to his or her actual last date of attendance, if beyond their original projected graduation date.

A student may not leave school during scheduled hours unless he or she has first filled out a 'Permit to Leave' slip and has had the permit signed by both an Instructor and, the school's director, or in the Absence of the director, the person then in charge.

A clean and neat appearance is very important. Everything you do to and with your client is about appearance and image. The institute has approved school official uniform. Men and women are required to be in uniform while on the school premises. All of the students are required to purchase a uniform and to keep it clean and pressed at all times.
